Obstetrics & Gynecology
Dr. Sheela Barhan is a native Ohioan who grew up in a small watermans' town on Maryland's eastern shore. While growing up, Dr. Barhan saw her physician parents, emigrants from India, care for the residents of this town. Now retired, her parents undoubtedly influenced her chosen career.
Dr. Barhan attended Loyola College in Baltimore where she studied biology and philosophy. She met her husband, Ricardo Buenaventura, M.D., in medical school at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. The couple completed post-graduate training in Chicago. She attended the University of Illinois Obstetrics and Gynecology residency program. Her husband was committed to active military duty at Wright Patterson Air Force Base and thus her arrival in Dayton in 1996.
Dr. Barhan has been a full-time faculty member of Wright State University Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology since 1996. She enjoys providing reproductive health care for women and believes her own personal growth comes as a fringe benefit from each woman's reproductive story. Dr. Barhan also enjoys the additional facets that academic medicine offers. "Teaching residents and medical students is the only hope for the future health care of our children and grandchildren."
